In Fall of 2009, Monahans took a van load of recording equipment (complete with a Digi-003, pre-amps, compressors, a MacBook and about a dozen different mics) out to Middle-of-Nowhere, West Texas and set up in an old hunting cabin on a friend's ranch. The goal was simply to capture the vibe and perhaps draw inspiration from the harsh contrast that exists where the rugged rock landscapes meet clear open skies, interrupted by the soothing motion of ominous steel windmills and the eeire silence of old trucks left for dead. It's the kind of time and space, the break from the norm, that you need sometimes to put everything in proper perspective. They plugged in, played loud, and walked out with a few songs that they decided to bring home and develop further.
Beginning this month, Monahans will release a new song each month for the remainder of the year. Each recording will be made available in mp3 format, exclusively to fans and members of their email list and other media networks (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc). In addition to the songs themselves, you may also expect to see video footage, photos from the studio, album art and liner notes along the way, as a means to provide a little more insight into the process as it unfolds over the course of the year.
