Come this May, Refueled magazine will hold true to it’s name by taking on a fresh supply of cool contributors, supporting sponsors, a revamped design and a brand new website. Now in it’s third year, I took a step back and evaluated what I thought were the strongest aspects of the magazine, listened to readers, received thoughts and input from other publishers, editors and designers and expanded on that. I feel this fifth issue encapsulates style, design and music the way I always envisioned - setting a cool americana, almost vintage “road movie” vibe throughout.
Some of the amazing features in the spring/summer issue includes the cover story on former brand manager of Rogues Gallery and new creative team member at Levi’s, One Trip Pass mastermind Jay Carroll. I’ll be hitting the road soon, along with photographer Gus Schmiege, and headed to SXSW in Austin to catch up and sit down with Jay at the Levi's/Fader Fort. Look for interview segments and other inside treats from the “Behind-the-Cover” video short on the new Refueled website once the issue drops.
I’m also stoked about the collaboration that the queen of slow design and sustainability Natalie “Alabama” Chanin and I are bringing to you - an Refueled “exclusive” look at Chanin’s 2010 Fall/Winter collection, all amazingly captured by photographer Joshua Black.
I chat with David Butler and Ed Shuttleworth of the Ohio-based band Black Owls, who create winsome yet powerful rock songs that meld glam, punk and classic rock to a uniquely ardent voice.
Also included is a rad surf style feature from Cicero DeGuzman Jr., a “Editor X Editor” interview with publisher/art director Bill Douglas of Coupe magazine, a look at surf photographer Jay Watson, a peek into filmmaker Jake Davis’ “Test Shot” series and so much more.
I'm really proud and excited to bring the new "revolution" of Refueled to the online magazine arena.
Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.
