Unless you’ve been, the tiny West, Texas town of Marfa is really hard to explain. The word you hear from everyone who has been over and over is “magical”. I, along with photographer Gus Schmiege, was there to interview/shoot Erika Wennerstrom from Heartless Bastards for Refueled magazine’s upcoming cover feature, during the El Cosmico Trans-Pecos Festival of Music & Love. The first night we arrived we spent with a few friends (folks like El Cosmico/festival creator Liz Lambert, musician Amy Cook, actress Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, Stag co-owner Bobby Johns, "Citizen Architect" producer Jack Sanders & various members of Heatless Bastards) under the harvest moon listening to Neil Young. The following days were a blur - days shooting a “style” feature with model Harlee Ria DeMeerleer and Bows+Arrows owner Lauren Wilkins, while nights were spent listening to amazing live music and capturing a special {Automatic Buzz} session. When I saw the photos (above) that Harlee had taken of the trip, I instantly fell in love with their lo-fi vibe and thought they captured the “magical” experience perfectly.
